2020 Shiraz
Sustainable farming practices, minimal intervention winemaking.
The fruit comes from our vineyard in Baynton East, in the Macedon Ranges wine region. Located on the northern edge of Macedon Ranges, this is one of the only vineyards in the region that will get Shiraz ripe. Granite, decomposed granite, and sand, make up the soils. The vineyard, strewn with granite boulders, is set amongst rolling hills at 500m ASL, a very cool site. This vintage was picked at the end of April, at just under 12 baume, with stacks of flavour. Interestingly this year, we made the decision not to irrigate the vines. Some well timed rain towards the end of the growing season alleviated our worries somewhat, and the fruit was in great condition when picked.
Fermented as 100% whole bunches.
Grown with care by Callan and RosemaryGosh, this is just so yum. Slosh of dark berry, ripe plum, loaded with regional white pepper, but just so, and flickers of fennel and sweet earth too. A sheath of lacy tannins shapes the brooding slurpy feel of the palate. There’s cola-sarsaparilla in the mix too. Character and complexity with high, high drinkability. Unreal. 94 Points."
