“The ultimate fly fishing wine. Chuck it in the river, and enjoy chilled at the end of your day fishing.” This light red is all about super bright red fruit, and very easy to drink.
An ode to those super thirst quenching half way rose, half way reds, that still have some structure and interest about them...Central VIC's answer to Tavel maybe??!
Vineyard:
The fruit comes from our winery block vineyard, in the Harcourt Valley, a cooler climate slice of the southern Bendigo wine growing region. Well drained sandy granitic soils make up the vineyard, creating expressive, driven wines, with freshness and minerality to the fore.
This year is a blend of carbonic macerated Shiraz, with direct press Cabernet.
Winemaking:
Whole bunches placed in fermenter, and covered with CO2 for 12 days of carbonic maceration. After this, a gentle pigeage by foot, and allowed to macerate overnight. Pressed into stainless steel, where it was left for the winter. Blended in the spring with a few glugs of direct press Cabernet.
Review by Mike Bennie, 15 June 2024:
Hits the glass with a pale ruby colour, inviting, suggesting a wine a few notches up the dial from rose. Vibrant perfume of sour and sweet cherries, sweet spices, rose petal, lipstick and sweet basil herbal lift. Similar flavours in squishy, bright texture, juicy, refreshing, easy to drink and streamlined with a faint sheath of lacy tannin. Good vibes.
