2024 'Skinsy' Pinot Gris
Grapefruit, guava, and blood orange zest come together with savoury texture on the palate.
Vineyard:
From Faraday, about five mins down the road from our winery in Harcourt. Sandy granitic soils, grown at high elevation, around 475m, on the cool south side of Mt Alexander. A few locals have nicknamed the vineyard site Leanganook - this is the indigenous name for Mt Alexander.
Winemaking: Three separate picks over seven days for different textural elements. All destemmed, and fermented on skins for an average of 10 days. 75% aged in old oak, with 25% aged in stainless for some fresh zing. All wild ferment, full malolactic fermentation in the spring, bottled unfiltered.
Review by Mike Bennie, 15 June 2024:
Heaps of texture and grip reflected in the amber-ruddy colour in the glass. Great fragrance of poached pear, candied ginger, candied mixed peel, jasmine, almonds. Quite savoury to taste despite this vibrant perfume, dry, brown pears, morecandied ginger though, a touch of rose water, a good, bony and dry, savoury finish. Drinkability is high in this, vivid freshness comes to the party. Delightful drinking.
